SUMMARY

The Security Officer (SO) is a full-time position at our Atlanta International school campus whose role is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for students, staff, and visitors at the school. The SO reports to the Associate Director of Security.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The Security Manager is responsible for leading all aspects of campus safety and security to maintain a secure, welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide effective leadership and supervision of security staff, including training, scheduling, performance management, and team development.
     
  • Oversee and enforce access control procedures, ensuring only authorized individuals enter school facilities and grounds.
     
  • Conduct regular patrols of the campus to detect and deter suspicious activity, respond promptly to incidents or emergencies, and maintain a visible, approachable presence.
     
  • Assist with daily traffic management and carline operations during student drop-off and pick-up.
     
  • Support the development and implementation of emergency preparedness plans, including participation in drills and training exercises.
     
  • Respond appropriately to safety hazards, security breaches, medical emergencies, and other incidents; provide first aid/CPR as needed.
     
  • Secure school property by monitoring locks, windows, and alarms, and promptly reporting any breaches, theft, or maintenance issues.
     
  • Maintain accurate records through daily logs, incident reports, and documentation of actions taken.
     
  • Collaborate professionally with students, staff, parents, and visitors while upholding a courteous and respectful demeanor.
     
  • Perform additional duties as assigned, including potential extended shifts (12+ hours) and weekend coverage as needed.


Minimum Qualifications and Requirements

Candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive leadership experience in security, law enforcement, military, or a related field (supervisory experience strongly preferred).
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and supervise teams effectively in a fast-paced environment.
     
  • Successful completion of a comprehensive background check with a clean criminal record.
     
  • Valid Concealed Carry Weapon (CCW) permit for the state of Georgia; must pass and maintain firearms qualification and proficiency standards.
     
  • Current CPR certification (or ability to obtain immediately upon hire); First Aid training preferred.
     
  • Ability to work effectively in a diverse, multicultural, and international school environment; prior experience in such settings is highly preferred.
     
  • Prior experience in school security, law enforcement, or military service is strongly preferred.
     
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with strong interpersonal abilities to interact positively with all members of the school community.
     
  • Proficiency with Apple and PC platforms, as well as Microsoft Office applications.
     
  • Fluency in English; proficiency in a second language is highly preferred.
     
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while functioning effectively as part of a collaborative team.
     
  • Strong decision-making skills, with the ability to remain calm and respond quickly under pressure in emergency situations.
     
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.


Physical Requirements

The role demands a high level of physical fitness and mobility. Candidates must be able to:

  • Patrol campus grounds extensively, stand for extended periods, climb stairs, and respond rapidly to emergencies.
     
  • Demonstrated ability to meet the physical demands of the position, including sustained mobility, timely response to emergency situations, and the safe handling of materials weighing up to 20 pounds.
