Teaching Assistants at AIS have a passion for working with students in a multicultural community and are always seeking new ways to personalize learning. With a transdisciplinary focus, AIS teaching assistants also integrate innovative learning strategies while working with a diverse student population.

JOB PURPOSE

The hybrid teaching assistant and KAS instruction works in a variety of ways to support student success during and after school. This staff member works to support student safety, well being, and learning by providing active supervision and engagement. This is accomplished by role modeling proper behavior, facilitating and encouraging student inquiry and using positive reinforcement in a manner that aligns with Primary Years Programme (PYP) principles.

Hours per week: 40 hours (Full-time)

Reports to: Head of Primary School & Kaleidoscope Coordinator

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Circulates through the learning environment assisting students.
  • Be involved with children; play actively, show personal attention to individuals, be a positive role model.
  • Help with classroom management, providing reminding, reinforcing, and redirecting language.
  • Carry out supervision duties (recess, lunch, etc).
  • Support with the preparation of classroom materials.
  • Provide ongoing feedback to students about their learning growth.
  • Liaise between roles, providing holistic support to students during and after school. 
  • Communicate with teachers, principals, KAS instructors about students' successes and challenges.  
Ideal candidates will have experience with various pedagogical approaches and will be excited by the opportunity to teach a diverse student body in an inquisitive and inquiry-based environment. The ideal candidate has demonstrated effective equitable and inclusive practices within and outside the classroom. A passion for working with Primary School students, a flexible attitude, a commitment to lifelong learning, and a sense of humor are essential.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE/SKILLS
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
  • Training and/or previous experience in a Primary School setting 
  • An unwavering commitment to the students
  • Commitment to equity, inclusion, and inquiry pedagogy, alongside a willingness to adapt and develop pedagogy to meet the needs of our learners
  • Enthusiastic about teaching within a multicultural and multilingual environment
  • Interpersonal, organizational, communication, and collaborative skills
  • Be able to keep up with physical demands of active children
  • Organized, flexible, passionate & dependable
  • Able to work well with others on a team, and with variety of personalities
  • Prior experience working with children ages 3 -12 (either personally or professionally) 

REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in working with children. 
  • Proficiency in English is required, with additional proficiency in Spanish, French, German or Chinese highly preferred.
  • Enthusiastic about teaching within a multicultural and multilingual environment.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Experience with Restorative Practices and/or Responsive Classroom preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, preferably in the field of Education (Associate’s or Bachelor’s) 
  • Training and/or previous experience in a Primary School setting
